Sonic Pi GUI

Demos:

Description:

From the Sonic Pi website: 'Sonic Pi is a live coding music synth for everyone.' Cross platform and already available in the repositories of several linux distros (as well as for Raspberry Pi), Sonic Pi is a sound synthesis application created at the University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory by Sam Aaron, and maintained together with the Sonic Pi Core Team. It was originally designed to help teachers teach children how to code through play and creative experimentation. The audio demos provided above were made using some of the various synths included in the Sonic Pi installation.

The Sonic Pi GUI is divided into a few principal sections, including: the Code Editor (where code can be pasted, modified, etc), the Play Controls just above the Editor; a Log Viewer on the righthand side of the GUI; and a useful Help System along the bottom of the window. There is a preferences button that gives various set-up options, as well as help and application buttons.

Sonic Pi can be programmed to play sequences and loops as well as allow for live performance, even using external MIDI controllers for realtime execution. Together with providing its own waveforms and some of its own sample files, Sonic Pi provides for additional useful control such as randomizing, FX and chord implementation, and more.

Patches and Tutorial:

Along with helpful videos and a series of coding examples (with audio results) on the homepage, the Sonic-Pi website has a very helpful tutorial page for getting started coding and making music, HERE.
